Steve Dean Lewis

Steve Dean Lewis age 64 of Warrensville died Friday, January 12, 2018 at his home. He was born in Ashe County on May 30, 1953 to the late Paul Brown and Pauline Parsons Lewis.

Mr. Lewis is survived by: his wife, Debby Miller Lewis, two sons, Chad Lewis and wife Cari McNeill Lewis of Boone and Brett Lewis and wife Melissa Severt Lewis of Crumpler, one daughter, Kaylan Lewis of Warrensville, one brother, Harold Lewis of Warrensville, one sister, Bendy Pennington of Warrensville, five grandchildren, Ethan Paul Lewis, Hayden Elizabeth Lewis, Cohen Reid Lewis, Joseph Cole Lewis, Sawyer Boone Lewis, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Steve loved singing and playing music more than anyone we have ever met.  The only thing he loved more was when he could sing and play with other people.  Sharing music with others was one of the best gifts he ever gave and having the opportunity to do so was one of the best he ever received.  He loved to teach others.  He loved spending time with his family and was proud of every member.  Loving the outdoors, some of the best time spent with his family was sitting by a campfire or at the ball field watching his kids and grand kids play.  He was interested in whatever his children and grandchildren were pursuing whether it was what they were doing in school or the latest pictures on the wild game camera.  He loved winning the kids stuffed animals out of the crane machines.  He liked playing solitaire, was a Goodwill extraordinaire, and a crushed ice fanatic.  He loved doing wood work and building things.  Steve loved being around people, and if you were a stranger to him, it wouldn’t be for long because he made friends easily and loved to talk to everyone.  Steve made many friends through the places he worked, especially during his many years at Thomasville Furniture.  His approach to any problem was to use common sense and his children and family valued his opinion on any decision or project that they might be considering.  He was always there to lend a listening ear and gave some of the best advice around.  He worked hard to take care of his family and always wanted to help others.

His quick wit was something most people knew him by and also by his kind heart.  Per his granddaughter Hayden, “He had the nicest smile” and he didn’t like to be hot.  He loved apples and mints and his various caps and guitars.  Steve loved Sugar Tree Church and everyone there.  His faith in God and willingness to serve Him humbly was evident in his testimony.  He loved to find new songs for the youth to try and learn to sing at church service.  Steve always kept a good attitude, even though he faced many serious health issues.  He would always say, “I’m much better than I deserve – I am blessed.”  He always had praise for the Lord and for what He had done for him.  He had peace in his heart and that is what Steve would encourage us all to pursue.  The love that he leaves with us will never be forgotten and the love that we have for him will never end.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00 am at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Greer. Burial will follow in Miller Roland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Badger Funeral Home.
