Mamie Sue Griffin, better known as Sue, age 86 of Fleetwood passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Sue was born on March 29, 1938 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late William Eugene Williams and Emma Ruth Phillips Williams. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard “Bud” Williams, one sister, Betty Jean Anderson, one son, David Griffin and one grandson, Joshua Clay Stevens.
Mrs. Griffin will be interred in the Old Fields Baptist Church Cemetery, her longtime church, with a private graveside service attended only by her family.
Throughout her life, Sue was known for her radiant smile, a feature that people constantly complimented her on. Her smile was a reflection of the joy and kindness she brought to everyone around her.
Sue's faith was central to her life. She was a dedicated member of Old Fields Baptist Church in Fleetwood, North Carolina for her entire life. From her childhood days until her illness prevented her, she would faithfully attend services.
Professionally, Sue dedicated 34 years of her life to Hanes and later Sara Lee. Her hard work, dedication, and reliability were evident in her long tenure. She approached her work with the same warmth and kindness that characterized her interactions with everyone.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her daughter, Teresa Stevens of Fleetwood and one son, Michael Richard Griffin and wife Beth of Whitsett, five grandchildren, Jake, Sarah, Abbey Griffin, twin grandchildren, Kimberly Renee Stevens and Timothy Ray Stevens, five great-grandchildren, Karissa Renee McClure, Akira Anderson, Riley, Jersey and Max Stevens, two great-great-grandchildren, Marcellus Anderson and Ella Grace Stevens. Sue is also survived by several nieces.
Celebration of Life Services will be held by Rev. Larry Powers on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 2:00pm at Old Fields Baptist Church. A meal will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
