Sybil Francis Teague Canup of Laurel Springs, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Margate Health and Rehab in Jefferson, NC. Sybil was born in Cherokee County on September 16, 1920 to Clifford and Lillie Spence Teague. She graduated from Great Falls High School as Salutatorian of her graduation class. Sybil worked at Hudson Hosiery Mill for 19 years and retired from Travelers Insurance where she was a typist in the claims department. In her spare time, Sybil loved to work in her flower garden and after her retirement worked with her daughter at Classic Touch Flowers and Gifts in Charlotte until 2002 where she was an expert bow maker, making thousands of bows during her career. She then moved to Ashe County with her daughter and son-in-law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Cecil Canup; four sisters, Thora Teague of Kannapolis, NC, Flossie Teague Carter of Huntsville, Alabama, Rosa Teague Johnston Smith of Crumpler, NC, formerly of Charlotte, and R.E. Teague Reynolds of Statesville, NC.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Canup Little and husband Gary of Laurel Springs, NC; stepdaughter, Debbie Canup Trexler and husband Gene of Kannapolis, NC; two step-granddaughters, Melanie Trexler of Kannapolis and Melissa Trexler Kirchner and husband Chris of Whiteman AFB, Mo.; one step-great-grandson, one step-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ashe Assisted Living and Memory Care for the excellent love and care given to Sybil during her stay there, and to Margate Rehabilitation for their excellent love and care given to Sybil during her short stay there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Real Life Church, P.O. Box 854, Jefferson, NC 28640.
Funeral services for Sybil will be private. The family will be meeting at the home of her daughter Darlene and husband Gary at 992 Cranberry Creek Road, Laurel Springs, NC 28644 for anyone wanting to visit.
