Tommy Author "Bubba" Stanley, age 61 of Creston passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his home. Mr. Stanley was born on February 11, 1958 in Ashe County to Robert and Virginia Queen Osborne Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jamie Stanley; uncles, R.H. Stanley, Charlie "Shade" Stanley, Larry Osborne and J.C. Osborne; aunts, Pearl Woods and Betty Woodard.
Mr. Stanley was a dedicated firefighter and first responder. He was a member of the Creston Volunteer Fire Department for 44 years where he served as assistant chief. He joined in October 1975 and was one of the founding members. He was employed at American Emergency Vehicles in Jefferson. He worked with Axis doing event staffing through ASU. Mr. Stanley was a member of the Church of Christ in Creston and West Jefferson. He enjoyed camping and going to tractor shows with his hammer mill and tractors. He had never met a stranger and was always there to help anyone in need.
Mr. Stanley is survived by: his wife, Susan Osborne Stanley; daughter, Karissa Stanley and fiance Matthew Brown of Jefferson; brother, Elzie Stanley and wife Jodie of Jefferson; grandson, Tucker Brown; two nephews, James Ray "Jay" Stanley and Billy Joe Stanley; step-nephew Lonnie Price; also surviving are several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 4:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Minister Tim Canup, Rev. Darrell Graybeal, and speaker Mark Miller. The body will lie in state from 3:00 until 4:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Osborne Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, c/o Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 US Highway 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640 or to the Creston Volunteer Fire Department.
The family is meeting at the home of his daughter at 107 McNeil Street, Jefferson Square Apartments #110 in Jefferson.
