Tressie Mae Calhoun

Tressie Mae Hoosier Calhoun age 88 of Creston the Rich Hill Community, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. She was born on August 29, 1936 to the late Lillard and Laura Walker Hoosier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, brothers, Dale, Darrell and Joe Hoosier, sisters, Judy Hoosier, Pearl Brown and Arlene Ashley.

Tressie Mae Hoosier Calhoun was a woman whose life was defined by love, service, and devotion to her family and community. A gifted quilter and dedicated gardener, Tressie found joy in the simple things and poured her heart into everything she did.

Alongside her beloved husband, J.D., she worked faithfully on the family farm, never shying away from hard work and always ensuring there was a warm, home-cooked meal on the table for anyone who walked through their door. Tressie loved nothing more than gathering her family together at their home, filling it with laughter, stories, and the comfort of being together.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in being part of the Rich Hill Baptist Church family. Tressie had a natural gift for caregiving, a calling she lived out in the way she lovingly cared for her parents, her children, grandchildren, and especially her husband throughout their lives together.

Mrs. Calhoun is survived by, her husband, J. D. Calhoun, four sons, Richard Calhoun (Teresa) of Creston, Donnie Calhoun (Sherry) of Warrensville, Randy Calhoun (Lisa) of Warrensville and Tommy Calhoun (Paige) of Creston, one brother, Delbert Hoosier of Delaware, 12 grandchildren, Daniel, Derek, Emma, Grant, Jordan, David, Stephanie, Nathan, Laura, Lily, Micaela and Jake, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at the Sapp Cemetery by Rev. Tommy Dollar.

Memorials may be made to the Sapp Cemetery ℅ Carroll Roten, 2422 Rich Hill Rd., Creston, NC 28615.

Tressie Mae will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her servant’s heart, and the steadfast love she gave so freely. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
