Virginia Neaves Barker

Virginia Neaves Barker, age 99 of Jefferson, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Barker was born in Ashe County on Friday, July 5, 1918 to James Oscar and Fannie Johnson Neaves. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Harvey Barker, and all her brothers and sisters. Virginia worked for Ashe Memorial Hospital for over 35 years, retiring as their Dietary Manager. She was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church for many years. She was known to be a very giving person, helping family and friends in anyway. She was always the happiest when surrounded by family, especially being a caregiver for her daughter, Glenna. Mrs. Barker loved to grow flowers and vegetables, she was known as a wonderful gardener, quilter and cook.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 3:30 pm at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dr. Michael Lea and Rev. Billy Joe Blevins. Entombment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:30 pm prior to the service at Badger Funeral Home

Mrs. Barker is survived by, two daughters, Dot Green and husband Calvin of West Jefferson and Glenna Barker of Jefferson, two grandchildren, Lisa Osborne and husband, David, Chris McNeill and wife Becky; also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Taylor McNeill, Madison and Hannah Osborne and several nieces and nephews.
