Virginia Mae (Howell) Barton

Virginia Mae Howell Barton, age 80 of Jefferson died on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Margate Health and Rehab. She was born on October 17, 1940 in Ashe County to Wiley and Ola Pennington Howell. Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Zeb Darrell Barton; one sister, Barbara Richardson; and two brothers, John Howell and Joe Howell. Mrs. Barton was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. She enjoyed crafts, watching Hallmark movies, and walking when her health allowed. She loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Barton is survived by:  son, Jeff Davis of Crumpler; daughter, Deborah Laney and husband Steve of Hudson; two sisters, Wanda Shore and Rosa Lee St. John, both of Jefferson; grandson, Brian Shelton of Lenoir; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Peyton, Tatiana, Madelyn, and Aiden; great-great-grandchild, Freya; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Lonnie Jones. Entombment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 19, 2020 prior to the service at Ashelawn.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Stacey Ham for her years of dedicated caregiving while Virginia was at home and to the staff of Margate Health and Rehab for the care they provided.
