Virginia Shepherd

Virginia Ruth Shepherd, age 88 of West Jefferson died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Shepherd was born October 9, 1916 in Ashe County to the late Elihu and Bina Elliott Weaver. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by a sister; Lorane Massie. Mrs. Shepherd was a member of the Warrensville United Methodist Church. She was a past Sunday school teacher and held many positions in the church. She was a veteran of WWII serving in US Air Force. She was very active in the community volunteering for the American Red Cross, Ashe County Library and the Ashe County Heart Fund. She received state recognition for volunteering with the American Heart Association. She was instrumental in the printing of the first edition of the Ashe County Heritage Book. She will be greatly missed by the people of Ashe County.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Warrensville United Methodist Church. Rev. Rodney Frye, Rev. Bruce Roten and Rev. Larry Shepherd will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Friday, April 22nd at Badger Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to: Warrensville Methodist Scholarship Fund, 2219 NC Hwy. 88 W., West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Husband: Dale Shepherd

Son: Joseph Shepherd of Clifton, NC

Brothers: John D. Weaver of West Jefferson, NC, Allen Weaver of Warrensville, NC and Jack Weaver of Rock Hill, SC
