Mr. Walter Worth Hamm better known as Worth age 67, of Lansing, died on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. Mr. Hamm was born on March 4, 1944 in Ashe County. Mr. Hamm was preceded in death by his parents Troy Edward and Luna Greer Ham, son, Stephen Francis Hamm, two brothers, James Ham & Garland Ham. Mr. Hamm enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. He worked as a carpenter for J.R. Vannoy & Sons Construction for many years. Worth was always there to help anyone in need if he could. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend. He will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Elder Eddie Lyle, Rev. Charles McCoy. Burial will follow in Davis Lyle Ham Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Mr. Hamm is survived by: Wife, Gertrude Emilie Hamm of Lansing, NC, 2 sons, David Troy Hamm, Anthony Alan Hamm and wife Melissa both of Lansing, two daughters, Diana Lynn Hamm of West Jefferson, Rebecca Jane McNeill and husband Chris of Jefferson, sister, Ardean Miller of Fries, VA, sister, Myrtle Paoletti of Newark, DE, brother, Junior Hamm of Newark, DE, sister, Earsie Roland of Lansing, NC, sister, Annie Saunders of Elkton, MD, brother, J.B. Hamm of Lansing, six grandchildren, Samantha McNeill, Gabrielle Hamm, Taylor McNeill, Tyler Grooms, Ethan Grooms & Vanessa Hamm also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
