Mr. Walter Thomas McCoy, Sr., better known as Tommy, age 82, of Hephzibah, Georgia died on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the V.A. Hospital in Augusta, GA. Mr. McCoy was born on October 29, 1927 in Creston, NC to the late Joseph and Goldie Graybeal McCoy. Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Edna Milam McCoy. Mr. McCoy served in the Army and was a member of the 11th Airborne, 187th Regiment Combat Team. He was later employed as an electrical lineman with IBEW Local Union 1579. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 13th, at 3 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Ashelawn. Mr. McCoy is survived by: two sons - Walter T. McCoy Jr. of Daton, TN, and Joseph T. McCoy of Hephzibah, GA; one daughter - Judy Reilly of NJ; five brothers - Pastor Herbert McCoy of Todd, NC, Harold McCoy of Todd, NC, Larry McCoy of Warrensville, NC, Don McCoy of Cleveland, TN, and Deforrest McCoy of Creston, NC; sister - June Rash Richardson of West Jefferson, NC.
