Wayne Denver Lewis

Wayne Denver Lewis, age 90 of Crumpler, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Margate Health and Rehab. Mr. Lewis was born on November 10, 1930 in Ashe County to Rufus Gibney Lewis and Mary Jane Weaver Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, and a son, Ricky Wayne Lewis who passed away September 18, 1996.

Wayne retired from General Motors in Delaware in 1985 after more than 30 years of service and returned to North Carolina. He loved the mountains. He loved his family very much and spending time with his grandkids. Wayne enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and tending to his yard which included several bird and squirrel feeders. He had an amazing love for all animals, but especially his own cat and dogs and his little baby girl dog, Fifi. He also enjoyed telling stories about the Flatwoods community and his childhood.

Mr. Lewis is survived by:  his wife of 52 years, Jane Lewis; his son, Danny Lewis and wife Elaine of Port Deposit, MD; two grandchildren, Scotty Lewis of Philadelphia, PA and Kelly Lewis Walls of Colora, MD; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Bednash, Macey Walls, and Sam Lewis. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn.
