Wesley Johnson Williams, affectionately known as Wes, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 7, 2023. He was born on March 20, 1953, in Ashe County to the late Freddie Elmer Williams and Myrtle Jean Wyrick Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, a brother, Thomas Eugene Williams, and his wife, Terri Williams.
Wes dedicated 36 years of his life to Leviton Manufacturing, where he worked tirelessly from 1972 until his retirement in 2008. His commitment to his profession was unparalleled, and he was highly regarded by his colleagues for his work ethic and unwavering integrity.
In addition to his career, Wes was deeply involved in his community, exemplified by his role as an alderman for the town of Jefferson. He took immense pride in serving his town and its residents, working tirelessly to make Jefferson a better place for all. His leadership and dedication were instrumental in the town's growth and prosperity.
Wes had a zest for life and a passion for adventure. He enjoyed traveling, and one of his favorite destinations was the Outer Banks. The serene beaches and coastal beauty provided a retreat that brought him immense joy and relaxation.
Wes is survived by his loving family, including his beloved companion, Betty Burrell; a son, Trey Alan Williams of Boone and Oak Island; a daughter, Tara Ann Williams of Delaware; a granddaughter “Izzy”; two sisters, Sandra Umphlett (Dewey) of Morganton and Lynn Jean Williams of Lansing; three brothers, Augustus “Gus” Williams (Wanda) of Hudson, Carl “Bob” Robert Williams (Karen) of West Jefferson, and Gwyn “Buster” Fred Williams (Leslie) of Glendale Springs; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate Wes's life will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Mark Harless.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 prior to the service.
The family respectfully requests no food or flowers please. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department, 205 Northwest Drive, Jefferson, NC 28640.
Wes’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and community spirit that will continue to inspire all who follow in his footsteps.
