Mr. Wilmer Charles Bare, 87, of West Jefferson died Saturday morning at the Ashe Living Center (Margate). Mr. Bare was born December 4, 1917 in the Obids community to Thomas J. and Minnie Liddle Bare. Mr. Bare was a veteran of WWII and a participant at the Normandy Invasion. He received five Bronze Service Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead, Distinguished Unit Badge, Bronze Service Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal. Following his military career, Mr. Bare worked as a superintendent in construction.
Mr. Bare is survived by his wife: Mrs. Ruth Badger Bare of the home, one daughter: Shelia Bare Helms of Hickory, NC, one step-daughter: Jody Fisch of West Jefferson, three brothers: Paul Bare, Weldon Bare, and Wade Bare all of West Jefferson, one sister: Grace Crawford of North Wilkesboro. Two grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning, September 5, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jack Miller and Elder Floyd South. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Badger Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
