James Pell Latham, age 79 of Crumpler passed away on Wednesday, July 5 2023 at his home. Mr. Latham was born on May 11, 1944 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Ennis Pell and Pauline Shepherd Latham. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Shatley and one brother, Steve Latham.
One of James’ favorite pass times in life was spending peaceful days by the water, fishing rod in hand. Trading and collecting antiques also became one of his favorite things to do. His collection was a living testament to his discerning eye and appreciation for the past. He also had a unique talent for finding arrowheads, he accumulated many arrowheads, pottery pieces and other artifacts he unearthed throughout the years. Mr. Latham will also be remembered for his dedicated 48 years of work at Sprague Electric, later United Chemi-Con. Above all James’ truest joy came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with his family, creating a wealth of treasured memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Mr. Latham is survived by his wife of 39 years, Joyce Bare Latham, one son, Chris Latham and wife, Missy of Winston Salem, one daughter, Syndi Brooks of West Jefferson, step-daughter, Angie Lyalls and husband, Chub of Union Grove, one sister, Charlotte Lewis of Todd, six grandchildren, Jamie Howell and wife, Beth of Hickory, Stephen Howell and wife, Amber of Wilkesboro, Jake Howell of Boone, Kinley Welborn of Union Grove, Fatina Latham and James Latham both of Winston Salem. Three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A private memorial service will be held at later date.
