Pastor Carol Dean Shaw, better known as Dean, a devoted servant of the Lord, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the age of 67 at his home. He dedicated his life to serving others and spreading the teachings of faith, leaving an indelible mark on those he touched.
Dean was born on August 2, 1956 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Robert Glen and Virginia Blanche Combs Shaw. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Dean Shaw and two sisters, Darlene and Dee Dee Shaw.
Dean's commitment to his faith was unparalleled. His passion for ministry was evident in every sermon, every act of kindness, and every moment he spent guiding and supporting his congregation. His unwavering devotion to the Lord was matched only by his profound love for his family. Dean and his beloved wife, Cathy, recently celebrated their golden 50th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love and partnership through life's joys and challenges.
Within his family and church, Dean was a pillar of strength and compassion. He also had a special bond with his cousin Mark Medley. Their friendship spanned over many years, spending countless hours working together and enjoying life.
As we mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, devoted minister, and cherished friend, let us also celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Pastor Dean Shaw.
Pastor Shaw is survived by his wife, Cathy Perry Shaw, daughter, Tina Taylor (Joe) of Jefferson, five sisters, Jennette Dollar (Jim), Peggy Perry (Tom) and Retha Woods (Kenneth) all of West Jefferson, Guyona Treadway (Jed) of Wilkesboro and Ina Greer of Jefferson, five brothers, Bill Shaw (Doris) of Alabama, Danny Shaw (Kim) of Whitetop, Tommy Shaw (Kelly) of Todd, John Shaw of Wilkesboro and Terry Shaw (Amanda) of Lansing. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Minister Clifton Greer and Minister David Lyalls. Burial will follow in the Perry Shepherd Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am-1:00pm two hours prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the family in care of Badger Funeral Home; 300 E. Main St. West Jefferson, NC 28694.
